Spelling Bee Championships 2011

Hundreds of schools up and down the country took part in the third Times Spelling Bee Championships, supported by Collins and Microsoft. Live heats look place between March and May leading up to the grand final in London on the 27th June.

Gaudio were approached to design bespoke medals and awards based on the iconic Spelling Bee branding. The gradients and blending used in the logo meant that traditional screen printing techniques wouldn't be suitable, but the Gaudio digital printing process was ideal. The result was a range of trophies and medals that accurately portrayed and enhanced the Spelling Bee branding.

Race for Recovery in support of Help for Heroes

The second Brut Race for Recovery took place on the 18th June in support of Help for Heroes. Almost 100 men and women turned up for the challenge which kicked off with two minutes of press ups, followed by a further two minutes of sit ups and a gruelling 1.5-mile run to complete the day. The British Military Fitness instructors were also on hand to provide motivation for the those that needed it.

The day was a great success and helped raise money for the excellent Help for Heroes charity. The trophies were designed and manufactured by Gaudio especially for the event and were constructed from mirror polished aluminium with a colour printed finish.

If you would like to find out more about the event, or take part next year, please visit the Race for Recovery website.

Scottish Education Awards

Alexandra Parade Primary School in Glasgow took three of the biggest honours at the 10th Daily Record Scottish Education Awards held at the Glasgow Hilton on the 14th June. X Factor finalist Lloyd Daniels performed for guests and presented the awards for Enterprise and Employability Across Learning. He said: "What a fantastic day to be part of. I've heard so many amazing stories. It's a privilege to be here and meet so many inspirational people."

To reflect this year's Circus theme, the trophy design was refreshed, complete with the new logo colourings. The award is made from polished aluminium with a pink Perspex star inset, and a tick cut through. The logo and additional stars are printed directly to the metal.

Gaudio Produces New Design for Netball Superleague

The Hertfordshire Mavericks have been crowned winners of the 2011 FIAT Netball Superleague for the second time. Winning captain Louisa Brownfield spoke after the match: “I’m so pleased, so pleased it’s been a fantastic season for us. The last couple of weeks we’ve had our ups and downs, we’ve pulled through and it’s just a fantastic end to what’s been a great season."

Gaudio Awards again produced the trophy, with a change in design from previous years to reflect the new sponsorship from FIAT. The trophy is profiled from solid aluminium, with a colour printed logo in the centre and mounted on a tiered aluminium base.

Inaugural World Catfish Classic is a Huge Success

Teams from around the world descended on Chiprana, Spain for the first World Catfish Classic. The competition was agonisingly close with the Americans leading the event for the entire time right up to the last 90minutes when the Dutch Pairing of Arnout Terlouw and Ron Beugelink came from zero to hero to clinch the event with all of the fish being caugh on the last day, winning by just over 1lb. The largest catch of the event was over 200lbs, with many more 100lb+ fish being reeled in.

A bespoke trophy was designed and manufactured by Gaudio especially for the event. The huge trophy was the focal point of the closing ceremony (see video below). The design takes advantage of Gaudio's unique printing process to apply colour directly to the aluminium.
